It’s kind of a funny story how it happened.
Let me start from the beginning. I had been working at this bank for five years. Two months ago, our old manager retired and the owner replaced him with his nephew. His dumb, lecherous, good-for-nothing nephew. Seriously, this guy was such an asshole, three of the oldest employees quit within his first month.
Anyway, the nephew decided he liked me and pursued me relentlessly. As gentlemanly as he was, pursuing me meant touching me inappropriately and making innuendos every half hour. Just all around harassment.
When I decided to report him to the owner, it was his word against mine. Of course, who was dear old uncle going to be believe?
Long story short, I was gently prodded into resigning.
Fast forward to that day. It was my last day and I was trying to get through all the people lined up so I could leave as soon as possible.
Then they came in.
Everybody knew them. They were in the news enough and they were pretty hard to miss. They called themselves The Crew. Just that. The Crew. According to news reports, there were six of them. On that day though, there were just four of them in the bank.
“Everybody get the fuck down on the ground!” The curly haired one yelled. He swung his rifle around threateningly. “We don’t want to hurt you so don’t be fucking idiots.”
“And don’t bother pressing the goddamn panic button either,” the mustache man in the tuxedo added. “Believe me, we’ll know and you will not get a chance to regret it.”
The lanky one who couldn’t seem to keep his mouth closed approached my fellow teller with a black bag. “Put the money in the bag, luv,” he commanded, almost politely, in a distinct English accent.
Meanwhile, the creepy one, the man in the gray skull mask, approached me. “Money in the bag, now,” he ordered.
I scowled, opened the bag and started putting money in.
After the first few handfuls, I glanced up to see the skull staring at me. I could only see his eyes but I was pretty sure he was smiling.
It creeped me the fuck out. I broke eye contact and continued putting money in the bag.
“You’re absolutely gorgeous.”
I froze and looked up at the skull, still staring at me. “What?”
“Oh no, sorry,” he said pleasantly. “Ignore me. Keep putting the money in the bag. You’re doing great.”
I paused and stared at him for a few seconds. I noticed his eyes were really blue.
“You have really nice eyes.” Then realizing what I’d said, I looked away again and went on putting money in the bag. I felt myself turning red. I couldn’t believe I was flirting with a fucking criminal.
God damn it.
